Laneway Festival 2015 report

We at the All Things Musical blog are pretty excited about the upcoming St Jerome's Laneway Festival here in Auckland on January 26. Now in its fifth year of visiting Auckland the 2015 line-up is perhaps its finest yet, boasting some of the brightest names in music worldwide as well as some of our own excellent, homegrown talent. Over the next couple of posts we will give a run-down of the acts that we are most pumped about seeing (in no particular order).

Angel Olsen

St. Louis native Angel Olsen garnered much critical praise for her 2014 outstanding sophomore album 'Burn Your Fire For No Witness'. Think Cat Power possessed by Roy Orbison by way of Leonard Cohen.

Belle and Sebastian

Indie pop stalwarts Belle and Sebastian will no doubt delight long-time and new fans alike with songs from their fresh new record 'Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance' as well as much beloved classics that span an impressive 19 year career.

FKA Twigs

2014 was a huge year for Tahliah Debrett Barnett aka FKA Twigs, the astounding talent from Gloucestershire. Her debut 'LP1' has been met with many accolades, including a shortlist entry for the prestigious Mercury prize, as well as earning an ardent following of fans worldwide.
This is Twigs' first visit to New Zealand and it is bound to be memorable.

Mac DeMarco

Indie Pop's favourite goofball Mac DeMarco agreed to play Laneway on the condition that his mother, Agnes, would perform MC duties for the day. Unfortunately Ms DeMarco won't be making an appearance in Auckland but Mac's sunny guitar-driven tunes and slacker personality will be sure to go down a treat on a (hopefully) sunny Auckland afternoon.

Flying Lotus

We are so lucky that not only will Hip Hop/Electronica visionary Flying Lotus be gracing the Laneway stage but that he will also be bringing his ground-breaking 3D live show, Layer 3 with him. Prepare to have your mind blown!
