Kiwi music on DVD

Did you know that the library has quite a few kiw music dvds? Music videos are easy enough to find if you really want them on Youtube. Sometimes though being able to watch specifically grouped videos can provide context and remind us what a rich and varied musical history we have in Aotearoa. Local hip-hop and R'n'B hit makers Dawn Raid entertainment have been around since the early 2000s. Music Anthology: The first 10 Years collects hits from their massive back catalogue. Here's one of my favourites from Savage's 2005 album Moon Shine...

    If you want a grand sweep of kiwi pop hits then you should check out Nature's Best a compilation featuring some of our best loved pop songs from the 70s right through to the 90s. The dvd accompanies four(!) cd compilations; Nature's Best which collects the top 30 favourite NZ songs and Nature's Best 2,3, which continue with the gathering of our best loved songs to complete a top 100. Also there's More Nature covering hits from 2000 to 2005. Here's one of favourites from the second compilation...
  One of the real treasures of the NZ music on dvd collection is Unsung Heroes of Maori Music. This 13 part series is a comprehensive look at a huge range of Maori musicians from a wide range of musical genre. Most of the episodes feature an in-depth look at a specific musician and focuses on their careers and how they have blended Maoritanga with popular forms of music.
